Skin….please care

Beauty is more than skin deep! Taking care of your skin requires many things from sleep, to cleansers to sunscreen! There are several steps required in picking the proper combination of products as well….so lets get to talking!
First one needs to figure out the type of skin they have, whether it’s oily, dry, sun damaged, a combination, sensitive….etc. Determining the type is critical for selecting a type of product that will work! Once the skin type is determined and products are selected and purchased then a daily routine should be in place EVERY night (especially for those that wear make-up!). The process should consist of cleansing, exfoliation, moisturizing and applying sunscreen (yes, winter, spring, summer and fall!).
When cleansing the first thing to do is stay away from bar soaps because they dry out the skin and when it comes to the face – that’s not what we want! If you wear make up, you’ll want to use the proper make up remover before cleansing. For the cleansing process choose a cleanser for you (for dry skin use a creamier cleanser, for oily skin use a clear cleanser)- it can be from Walmart or Walgreens; it doesn’t have to be expensive. Johnson and Johnson has a good cleanser for all skin types, Purpose. When cleansing rinse your face in water and then place a nickle size amount of cleanser and apply it to your face. In the morning you’ll want to simply rinse your face, using cleanser isn’t necessary, it may lead to OVER cleansing. Over cleansing is part of the reason acne occurs. The body is stripped from its natural oils and the body panics and produces excessively. Rashes and Oil are seen on the screen as warnings of over cleansing.
Exfoliation is a major key factor in skin care! Men are really good at exfoliation (part of their shaving process!). Retinoids and microdermabrasion are great ways to exfoliate. When it comes to exfoliating, facial scrubs are a big deal; the scrubs with tiny grains are the best and easier on the skin. Theses scrubs remove the top layer of dead skin cells that cause the skin to look dull – Lancome has a really good facial scrub. Using a microdermabrasion kit once a week keeps the skin healthy and vibrant.
Renova and Retin-A, two types of retinoids work similar to facial scrubs by removing the top layer of dead skin cells, however, they also produce collagen. Without collagen in the skin (which provides structure) the skin wrinkles. So if your skin is beginning to create lines or wrinkles collagen may be what you need, however, it can be used or taken in different forms.
Moisturizers are needed by everyone – unless you have really bad acne. Moisturizers seal moisture into the skin, however, if you OVERmoisturize you clog your pores, be careful. The tightness of your skin hints to you how much moisturizer to use.
Use sunscreen!!!! Everyone!!!! Aside from little collagen, sun damage causes wrinkles! Make sure you have one with UV protection (moisturizers have UV protection as well – you can get a moisturizer for day and one for night- that’s a trick. However, don’t use a moisturizer with sunscreen in it overnight – it is a 12 hr regimen).
Toner and Eye creams were saved for discussion last because they are discretionary. Toners strip the skin of oils COMPLETELY of dirt, make ups and oils. They completely dry the skin out. However, if you use a good cleanser then there are no worries of left behind dirt etc. As for eye creams, your good daily lotion can be used around the eye area and should do the trick.
So, needless to say, PLEASE take good care of your skin!!! Stay looking healthy and young. Love yourself and remember beauty is more than skin deep!!!!!! Pores need love too!!!!!!
